Rara Lake
Located in Rara National Park, Rara Lake is the biggest and the most famous lake in Nepal. It lies at an elevation of 2972 meters in Mugu district. Rara Lake is approached after three hours trek to west from Gamgadhi, the headquarters of Mugu. Spread over an area of 10.8 km2, the maximum length of Rara Lake is 5 km, maximum width is 3.2 km, and depth is 167 m.
Rara National Park extends in 106 km2 area. Changing its form within a day long, Rara Lake seems to be a nymph of heaven ornamented with flowers from Jesth to Aswin (May-June to Sep-Oct) months. Another additional specialty of Rara Lake is that this lake has Asala (Himalayan) fish, which is not found anywhere else in the world.
Murma Top can be approached after 3 hours walk towards west from Rara Lake. From there, the beautiful view of Saipal Himalayan Range including the attractive view of Rara Lake can be observed. In this lake, the reflective images of Sisne Himalaya and Kanjirowa Himalaya are seen.
